Enjoy an Excerpt:

Jake was a people watcher and his observant eyes took in details about the various individuals who were walking by. He noticed an attractive, well-dressed woman who wore her gray hair in an up-do style. She reminded him of his own grandmother, so full of life and love and wisdom. As she was getting into her car, a man grabbed her purse and tore it from her hand. The purse snatcher shoved her to the ground as he took off running toward Jake’s vehicle. Jake reacted without thinking, and he opened his car door into the path of the running man. He shoved the door fast and hard, and he straight-armed it like a football player.

The door and the purse snatcher collided, and the door won. The thief’s face smacked into the window, and his knees banged against the metal. He bounced off hard and landed flat on his back on the pavement, dropping the purse as he fell. Jake got out of his vehicle, closed the door and stood there looking down at the man. A bruise was forming on the man’s forehead. He struggled to his knees, and he glanced at the purse on the ground near Jake’s feet. Jake shook his head at him.

“Leave it.”

The man looked Jake up and down, and saw his worst case scenario, a vigilante who still believed in chivalry.

My Impressions:

Nolan's premier novel, "Dead Lawyers Don't Lie, is an amazing thriller. I just really enjoyed this book. It was an exciting, suspenseful page turner.  Jake, Terrell, Beth and Sarah were well developed layered characters that breathed life into the story. Jake is a man full of honor, integrity and deep sense of purpose for life. I really enjoyed the love and devotion that Jake and Cody have for each other; nothing like a man and his dog to warm your heart.

The only negative thing I can say about the book is that it could have been shorted down a bit. Parts of the story seemed a little unnecessary and gave too much explanation and backdrop when it would have been better to let imagination set in.  Other than that the story moved nicely, kept me engaged. The author made sure the story was packed full of action, gripping and had interesting characters, with a little romance and humor mixed in.
